About Us… Community Chest CEO

The Community Chest of the Nelson Mandela Bay has made an impact in the lives of many residents in this Metro. For over 55 years we have been serving the Community and for the past 10 years have given over R19.5 million for those who are vulnerable. We support over 60 beneficiaries who ensure those most needing assistance and support are the recipients of the support.

We are able to serve over 200 donors in ensuring their giving reaches a wide range of communities in need. We have assisted those who have lost through a disaster and have given out clothing, household goods and toys to the value of millions of rand. We really keeping our community’s hope alive.

Unfortunately we are able to reach but a few of the many vulnerable communities. Our grants to beneficiaries this year meant that we have been able to make a difference to some 220,000 people through our carefully selected beneficiaries. Yet the demand continues to “out-sprint” the supply and the Community Chest needs to increase its generated donor income to meet these increasing needs. This year we are aiming to raise R2.4 million – we need the support community at large to be able to reach these new goals.

Each donation big or small, is vitally important especially if it comes from those who earnestly have a heartfelt desire to make a difference.

We are thankful to all our donors, new partners and prospective donors who make it their mission to help the Chest fulfill its vision and for displaying confidence and trust in our ability to increase the investment in our communities.

Remember this is your “Community Chest,” so I challenge you to become involved, support us through being a volunteer, through being a donor, and joining our Red Feather Initiative, using us as a conduit in the dispersing of gifts in kind (clothing, toys, bedding, carpets, food, etc.), and through involving us in your philanthropic goals.

The shift in emphasis of so many corporate bodies to implementing a personal social responsibility programme is gratifying. We at the Community Chest believe we can play an active partnership role in assisting you with your social programme and we invite you to contact us for additional information.
