Fundraising Events
Splash Festival This is one of the Community Chest’s main promotions and we are able to generate some R100,000 through the organisation and administration of the stalls at this event. We also accommodate art and craft stallholders from the local community and so provide the local small entrepreneur the opportunity to market their products. The event takes place over 4 days of the Easter weekend.
Vodacom Valentine Ball For the past nine years Vodacom has sponsored the Valentine Ball. A Valentine Ball committee consisting mostly of volunteers is responsible for organising the event that takes place every February. Income from this event is not less than R100,000. Spar Eastern Cape Golf Day The Community Chest is the beneficiary of the proceeds (R40,000 in 2009) from the Spar Golf Day which is annually organised by Spar and takes place in March.
Winter Woolly Week The collection of warm clothing and blankets takes place annually in June. Individuals, companies and many schools participate in donating items of clothing that brings winter warmth to many in our community. Sponsors of the collection of clothing are Caltex SA, Algoa FM and Redibox.
Spring Tea The Chest initiated this promotion in 2005. It takes place in September. Income generated during the 2008 Spring Tea was R12,000. Click here to see the Spring Tea sponsors.
Red Feather Day In 2005, this event replaced the Community Chest’s annual street collection held in September. The Red Feather Day takes place in October and stickers with the Community Chest’s Red Feather emblem are sold at R5,00 each. The latest promotion brought in around R8,000.
Friends of the Red Feather Club This fundraising initiative has been introduced by the local Community Chest to provide a means for special individual donors to be part of social development in this community. Click here for more info.
